Hello Denise! Many attractions and walking tours are wheelchair accessible. Here are some top places that come to mind: the USS Constitution, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Old North Church, and much more. However, you can always double-check their website for more information.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Charles. There is something about walks like these that really capture your soul, and they become addictive! I hope you get to the Camino one day soon. If you enjoyed the West Highland Way, you will certainly love the Camino. And I would love to hear when you book that ticket!

Buen Camino!

I have been thinking about doing it for the past 10+ years. I walked the West Highland Way last year with my son and that provided me with a taste of this sort of travel. At 60 I don’t want to leave it for too long. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Comment on Where to Stay in Amsterdam (14 Best Places, By A Local) by Amber Visch https://travellemming.com/where-to-stay-in-amsterdam/#comment-125766 Sun, 09 Nov 2025 13:49:55 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=207401#comment-125766 In reply to RIANA FERREIRA.

Hi Riana,

Visiting Amsterdam for Christmas sounds like an amazing idea! There are still plenty of apartments for rent during that time. Some of my favorites that score high on both design and location are:

Catalonia Vondel Amsterdam, which is located next to the Vondelpark. This hotel offers a couple of apartments and its neighborhood is often filled with Christmas decorations.
The Houthavens Apartments are in a great location as well. Its apartments are large, which is not often the case in Amsterdam, and look to possess fully equipped kitchens as well.
The Studio next to Skinny Bridge is another good option. While this one does not have a separate bedroom, its location in the center makes up for it.

If you don’t want to cook, there are also plenty of hotels with fabulous restaurants. However, not many of them offer Christmas lunches, so I suggest booking a Christmas lunch at a restaurant that does not belong to a hotel. This gives you more options and is often a lot more fun, in my opinion. For example, you could stay at the Catalonia hotel mentioned above, take tram 1 to J.P. Heijestraat, and go for lunch at the nearby restaurant Gitane.

Bear in mind that if you plan to have a Christmas lunch somewhere, now is the right time to book, as the best restaurants fill up quickly. If you need more restaurant recommendations, feel free to reach out, or take a look at the mini-guides below each neighborhood in this guide.

All the best,
Amber

Comment on Where to Stay in Phuket (Best Areas & Hotels + Map) by Nate Hake https://travellemming.com/where-to-stay-in-phuket/#comment-125706 Sat, 08 Nov 2025 15:25:26 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=187375#comment-125706 In reply to Maryanne Doores.

Hi Maryanne!

I’d say Kata or Karon are probably the best areas. Here are some suggestions that I think are close to your requirements. Just note that views vs walkability is always a trade-off in Phuket. The best views come from hotels on hills or the cliffs, but then that naturally makes walkability harder. Still, I think there are some options here that might work:

In Kata:
Chanalai Flora Resort in Kata – great location in Kata near dining. The Deluxe rooms are high enough to get some pretty decent views still.
Chanalai Romantica Resort in Kata – should mostly meet those requirements, except for views you’ll need to specifically get one of the top level rooms
The SIS Kata Resort – an infinity pool with epic views. Walkable to dining in Kata but note it is a steep incline to get up to the hotel.

In Karon:
Paradox Resort Phuket – close to the beach and to the main action. Get a sea view room for views.
Pullman Phuket Karon – about a 15-20 minute walk to restaurants, but the sea view suites are nice and the resort may be the style you’re looking for.

Any other questions let me know. Hope you enjoy Phuket!
-Nate

Hi Moira!

It is not typical for hotels to have a free airport shuttle. Many of them do have a standard list of taxis they could call, or offer a paid service like the Intercontinental Amstel Hotel. So, if you have an early flight, I suggest booking an airport hotel for your final night. The Ibis Styles Airport hotel, or the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport hotel are good options!

Depending on what time you leave, however, you might be able to take public transport. The train to Schiphol leaves hourly from Central Station between 1 and 5 am. Before and after this period, it runs every ten to twenty minutes. From Amsterdam Amstel, you can take a night bus between 1 and 6 am. But there are many more options from multiple points in the city. Check 9292.nl for the best travel advice. However, if you are worried about possibly missing your flight, but you don’t want to stay near the airport, then book a hotel close to Central Station. THIS HO(S)TEL or NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace could be a good option.

If you already have a place booked, or any other questions, please let me know! I could help you figure out the best way to the airport.

All the best,
Amber

Hi Vicki,

Good choice, and I would not want to stay in the Red Light District either. The Mövenpick is a beautiful hotel with great views of ’t IJ. It is a little isolated in the sense that there are not many bars and restaurants within walking distance. However, it is still located next to the Bimhuis, where you can catch jazz concerts, and close to Choux restaurant and Jakarta hotel’s restaurant, which are great options for dinner. Its location makes it a great place for a quiet stay. Additionally, there’s a tram stop directly in front of the hotel, which will take you to the central station in just three minutes, making the rest of the city extremely accessible.

However, if you are looking for more buzz around your accommodation, I suggest Pestana. Located in De Pijp on the bank of the Amstel, the area around the hotel is peaceful, while all the bars, restaurants, and shops in De Pijp are close by.

Park Plaza Hotel in Willemsparkbuurt is also a little quieter, with many cozy restaurants in its proximity. Located next to the Vondelpark, it is one of the more romantic stays. Similarly, Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel overlooks Oosterpark and is located in a peaceful, yet ‘gezellige’ neighborhood.

If you need more recommendations, be sure to let me know! Any of these areas is great for what you are looking for, so check the other hotels in this guide out as well if you need more inspiration.

All the best,
Amber

Hi Susan! Thanks for reading.

I created a Google Map for you, including the items mentioned in this article. It does not include the winter activities mentioned in the last section here (most of those activities occur in spots previously mentioned!). I hope it helps!

As for a tour, this personalizable, private tour is a great option to hit the main attractions plus a few bonus stops! Another option would be this vintage car tour, which allows you a full tour of this historic neighborhoods without all the walking!

While not a private tour, I can also highly recommend this food and drink tour.

Is there anything else I can help you with? I hope you have a wonderful time in Prague!

Hi Erin–you know, I’ve never actually been asked that question before! After so long here, it’s a tough question, but there are a few things: family (of course!), houses with yards (but that’s more of a big-city thing than a France thing), voting in person (I’m not a citizen here), and being able to buy English-language books in bookstores easily (possible here, but not easy, especially outside of Paris). There are also things I miss that I could improve if I put the time and effort into them: a truly in-depth knowledge of the country’s history and politics, the ability to communicate my precise meaning with the nuance and exact tone I want in every scenario without thinking about it. Are there things you anticipate missing that I can specifically comment on?

Hi Laura – yeah, it’s tough with medium-term rentals during high season. Most landlords either want annual or to chase the higher per night prices of short term rentals.

I would suggest checking out this expat rental group on Facebook. I think it’s where you’re most likely to find something that suits your needs.

Comment on Where to Stay in New York City (Best Places & Areas, By a Local) by Niamh Hayes https://travellemming.com/where-to-stay-in-new-york-city/#comment-125371 Tue, 04 Nov 2025 22:18:19 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=45402#comment-125371 In reply to Mauro Miramontes.

Hi there!
Yes, New York City is definitely expensive, but there’s so much to do here that you can get away with sticking to a tight budget. If you want a cheaper hotel room, try Pod 51 in Midtown Manhattan, or consider staying in a neighborhood outside Manhattan, like Long Island City, Queens, or Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
I always advise visitors to only use the subway and avoid cabs. It’s $2.90 one way, and takes you anywhere you want to go throughout the four boroughs. This will save you a ton of money!
Also, take advantage of free things to do, like walking the Chelsea High Line and Central Park, visiting the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, and seeing Rockefeller Center. Many of the museums in the city have free entry days; you can check online for schedules.
Food is expensive, but you can find a mix of more budget-friendly cuisine and higher-end options in the West Village, Chinatown, and the Lower East Side. Food in Midtown and Uptown Manhattan is more expensive in general. Kiki’s in Chinatown is my favorite Greek food in the city, and the prices are reasonable for the high quality.
The bars (especially Irish/dive bars) offer happy hour specials on drinks between 4 and 7 PM weekdays. Sometimes there are specials on pub grub as well. The West Village has a great bar scene.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hello Jimmy,
There are other great neighborhoods worth staying in! If you  want to be close to Midtown, Murray Hill is slightly more laid back with some unique, historic architecture.
The best neighborhoods for thrifting would be the West Village or the Lower East Side. You’ll get a nice mix of history, and the architecture is varied, contrasting the more modern feel in Midtown Manhattan. You’re not too far from Chinatown, which is definitely a great neighborhood to find bargains and unique stores if you don’t mind the street congestion.
If you’re a fan of old New York City, I would stick to staying in Lower Manhattan in general. Once you start getting past the Chelsea neighborhood (14th street and up), everything becomes much more modern.
The oldest neighborhood in Manhattan is the Financial District. If you’re there, get a drink at Fraunces Tavern and check out the Federal Hall National Memorial. The Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side is worth seeing to learn about the city’s immigration history. Have a great time!

Yes, you’ll need to pay the local liability insurance on arrival. Just budget for it and don’t be surprised when you arrive (even the best agencies typically charge it).

Comment on Where to Stay in Bangkok (Based on Your Travel Style) by Nate Hake https://travellemming.com/where-to-stay-in-bangkok/#comment-125299 Mon, 03 Nov 2025 19:08:10 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=187118#comment-125299 In reply to Johanne.

Yes, Urban House is in Silom, near Lumphini Park, so a very good location I think. Errawan National Park is supposed to be beautiful if you like nature (I’ve actually never made it that way myself). And in terms of islands: it’s pretty much Samui, Pha-ngan, or Tao on the eastern side. Samui is the most developed, has the only airport, and is generally the most convenient. But I think both Pha-ngan and Tao are more interesting and have better beaches. Considering how much time you have, you could consider hopping to all three (you kinda have to go through Samui anyway to get to the other two).

Comment on 23 Best Things to Do in Jackson Hole (By a Local) by Morri Stewart https://travellemming.com/things-to-do-in-jackson-hole/#comment-125291 Mon, 03 Nov 2025 15:48:57 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=211254#comment-125291 In reply to Linda Scialabba.

Hi Linda!
First happy upcoming awesome milestone birthday! Second, good for you in planning ahead, because that is a necessity when traveling to Jackson Hole. I took an early morning walk yesterday with your question in mind and stopped by the Rusty Parrot. Their wonderful front desk was kind enough to give me a tour of the beautiful ‘new’ lodge. (Side note: I spent my wedding night at the Rusty Parrot years ago!)
I also walked over to the Hotel Jackson and took some photos. In a future reply, I will send you a few of those after our team uploads them.
Both hotels are fantastic choices. My extended family stayed at Hotel Jackson last winter when they visited, and we enjoyed a cozy family dinner there one evening at Fig, which makes a signature cocktail worthy of trying!
For you, though, I am leaning toward suggesting Rusty Parrot. It is nestled up to Fish Creek on one side, and the comfortable lounge has huge picture windows that look out on Miller Park. Only a few blocks from the Town Square, the Rusty Parrot Lodge is situated in a prime location for both walking fun and a quiet retreat in the town of Jackson itself.
Your ideas for activities are awesome. Summertime in Jackson affords locals and visitors endless options for adventure-filled days! Keep me in the loop if I can assist further in your planning, and say “Hello” to the great team at the front desk of the Rusty Parrot for me!

No, it will not. You need local liability insurance. What Discover Cars is selling is coverage on damage to your vehicle, which you may or may not want but which is not the legally required insurance. Usually you’ll have to pay the local insurance on arrival to the agency, and usually it is separate than whatever price you are quoted online.

Comment on 43 Best Things to Do in Vancouver (By a Local) by Catherine Driver https://travellemming.com/things-to-do-in-vancouver/#comment-125288 Mon, 03 Nov 2025 15:15:28 +0000 https://travellemming.com/?p=126070#comment-125288 In reply to Jerry.

Hi Jerry,
Vancouver has lots of great live music! Some places I would recommend checking out are Guilt & Co., Frankie’s Jazz Club and 2nd Floor Gastown. Tyrant Studios is also a hidden gem for music (just bypass the 1st Floor).
Have a look at the offerings at The Fox Cabaret, The Biltmore, and The Cobalt. These are some smaller venues for rock gigs. The Rickshaw is not in the best neighbourhood, but it is a larger venue for rock and punk shows. And of course, the Commodore Ballroom is a Vancouver legend for concerts by more famous bands.
Have a look online to check out the schedules at these places for what’s on during your visit. And I would love to hear where you end up! Welcome to Vancouver!
