Looking for the best honeymoon destinations? Planning a relaxing (or adventurous!) honeymoon is an exciting prospect, but first, you have to decide where to go.

I put together this article to give you a ton of inspiration for your ideal honeymoon destination, for both the USA and abroad. I had a blast planning my own honeymoon, and I’m always dreaming of options for my next chance at a romantic getaway. 

From stunning tropical islands to trendy cities, this list is based on the best places I’ve personally visited along with spots other travelers have put on my radar.

Paris is arguably the most romantic city in the world and is well-known for being a great honeymoon destination. The city is magical with beautiful landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame.

Paris is especially great for couples who enjoy delicious cuisine, art museums, and people-watching from cafes. There’s nothing better than enjoying a croissant and then exploring the Musée d’Orsay or the Musée de l’Orangerie.

Rome, Italy

An undeniably romantic Italian city packed with history, beautiful architecture, and outstanding cuisine.

Rome is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations due to its charming streets, historic landmarks, and, of course, amazing food. You can wander through the galleries at the Centrale Montemartini, marvel at the ruins of the Roman Forum, or make a wish with your new spouse at the Trevi Fountain.

Rome is also known for its outstanding cuisine, from pizza at Bonci to the multi-course tasting menu at Enoteca La Torre. In fact, classic Italian dishes such as Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara were invented in Rome itself. 

The city is also a great base for exploring other parts of Italy. Specifically, I recommend taking a day trip to a nearby winery. It’s one of my favorite memories from my own honeymoon.

New York City, New York

New York City is the perfect destination for couples who want a big city escape with plenty of things to do.

Catch a show on Broadway, stroll through Central Park, and visit one of the many museums on Museum Mile. In a city so big, you’re sure to find plenty of activities that you and your partner can enjoy together.

New York City is an especially great getaway around the holidays when you can ice skate at Rockefeller Center.

Bali is known for its beauty, surf breaks, and chill vibe, making it the perfect romantic honeymoon destination for both adventurous couples and those who want to kick back and relax.

The island of Bali has exploded in popularity in recent years, but you really can’t beat the incredible scenery found here. Experience it by signing up for surfing lessons, booking a scuba diving tour, or just lying around on the white sand beaches.

Additionally, there’s no shortage of luxury resorts providing dining, spa experiences, and private pools. With so many options, planning a honeymoon here can be simple (especially compared to wedding planning).

Spend the morning soaking up the sun on one of the many beaches. Then, enjoy an incredibly fresh seafood platter at Chez Aldo or one of the other nearby fish restaurants.

Marseille is also the perfect base for exploring other parts of southern France, such as the small fishing village of Cassis or the beautiful city Aix-en-Provence.

The US Virgin Islands are one of the best honeymoon destinations for a tropical island escape. The USVI’s are made up of three major islands including St. John which is home to the Virgin Islands National Park. No matter which island you stay on, you’ll find pristine beaches and untouched natural beauty.

The USVI’s are one of the best spots to enjoy white sandy beaches, a friendly Caribbean atmosphere, and relaxed bars. And the best part is that American citizens can visit without a passport. You can even visit the aptly named Honeymoon Beach on Water Island while there.

Big Sur is one of the most romantic destinations in California for couples who love the outdoors. The beautiful jagged cliffs here make for some of the most dramatic scenery along the California coast.

Big Sur is an easy drive from both Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is one of the best places to surf in California. Plus, couples can find lots of beautiful sites to admire like McWay Falls and Pfeiffer Beach.

Asheville is one of the best romantic destinations for couples who love the outdoors. The artsy city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a placement that gives the city a unique mix of urban and outdoorsy attractions.

Some of the best things to do in Asheville are to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once you’ve finished a day of outdoor exploration, you can return to sample the beer at one of the more than 30 breweries in the city. 

It’s also worth spending a day exploring the gardens, grounds, and winery at Biltmore Estate, the largest private mansion in the U.S.

Zion National Park is an unforgettable honeymoon destination for couples who love hiking and exploring together. Hiking Angels Landing is a bucket list item for many (if you manage to get a hiking permit) as is the Narrows. And, those are just two of the many hikes available here. You can also bike, rock climb, and kayak in the park.

Zion National Park is one of the most visited National Parks in the United States, so there’s no real way to escape the crowds. However, the iconic slot canyons and breathtaking scenery are worth it.

A honeymoon at Disney World is ideal both for Disney fanatics as well as more casual fans. Walt Disney World has plenty of activities, restaurants, and events for couples to enjoy. 

Walt Disney World doesn’t specifically offer honeymoon packages, but there are lots of romantic things to do at the park. You can take a cruise to watch the fireworks at night, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, or book a massage at the Grand Floridian spa.

San Juan is the perfect base for a honeymoon in Puerto Rico. It’s a beautiful city with colorful architecture and romantic cobblestone streets. The city has great restaurants and kiosks for foodie couples.

History lovers will enjoy seeing spots like El Morro and La Fortaleza. You can spend your afternoon exploring Paseo de la Princesa or hanging out on one of the beaches in San Juan. It’s one of the best honeymoon destinations for U.S. travelers because it’s easy to get to and you don’t need a passport.

Hilton Head offers a combination of white sand beaches and small-town Southern charm. Seafood lovers, Hilton Head is for you! The island has tons of oyster restaurants like the Old Oyster Factory and Brother Shuckers offering fresh seafood.

One of my favorite things to do in Hilton Head is kayaking in the marshes. You can also take cruises in the Salt Marsh and potentially spot bottlenose dolphins in the spring and summer months.

Nashville is the perfect destination for music lovers. Known as Music City, Nashville is home to the iconic Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and much more.

There’s no place better than Las Vegas for an exciting action-packed honeymoon. Couples can enjoy all kinds of Las Vegas attractions from riding the world’s second-tallest Ferris wheel to seeing a Cirque Du Soleil show.

The Las Vegas Strip is the most well-known area of the city. It’s full of enough restaurants, casinos, nightclubs, and entertainment to keep you busy for a long time. You can also check out nearby state parks like Valley of Fire if you need a break from the excitement for a little while.

San Francisco is a great choice for a one-of-a-kind honeymoon destination. There are so many different unique things to do in San Francisco, including walking along the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, eating local seafood at Scoma’s Restaurant, and visiting the Japanese Tea Garden.

Culture-loving couples will enjoy strolling the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the San Francisco Museum. You can also wander Fisherman’s Wharf or take a tour of Alcatraz.

San Antonio is a historic Texas city that’s perfect for a romantic getaway. The San Antonio Riverwalk is a popular spot for couples to stroll, and the water is perfect for a romantic cruise.

San Antonio is full of other romantic places like the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the Japanese Tea Garden. You’ll also find plenty of great restaurants to enjoy from fine dining with a regional twist at Clementine to the tacos at Ray’s Drive Inn. Plus, history buffs will likely want to visit the Alamo; an 18th-century Spanish fortress and mission.

Grand Canyon National Park is an epic honeymoon destination for outdoorsy couples. For as far as the eye can see, red rocks with millions of years of geological history stretch out over the horizon, centered by the Colorado River snaking through the mesas and buttes.

Each year millions of people make their way to Arizona to see the iconic rocky canyon walls from the south rim. 

Hiking in Grand Canyon National Park is an unforgettable experience to do as a couple, but you’ll need to be in good shape to handle most of the trails. Another romantic way to see the park is to take a helicopter tour with a champagne toast.

Tahoe City, California

Reykjavik is an increasingly popular honeymoon destination. It’s a relatively easy flight from the East Coast of the USA, and the city has beautiful outdoor spaces along with great cuisine and fun nightlife. Reykjavik’s attractions include the Old Harbour and Hallgrimskirkja. 

Once you’ve had your fun in Reykjavik, you can rent a car and day trip to nearby waterfalls like Skogafoss or take a longer road trip on Ring Road. Reykjavik is the ideal starting point for an adventure through Iceland’s natural wonders.

The islands of Fiji make for one of the best tropical honeymoon destinations in the world. Fiji, which is made up of more than 300 islands, is known for its beautiful blue waters and white sand beaches. 

Couples can enjoy a getaway surrounded by gorgeous tropical scenery. Not to mention, the people of Fiji have a reputation for their warm hospitality. Depending on where you go, activities here include snorkeling with manta rays, going scuba diving, or visiting one of the spas. 

There’s also accommodation here for every budget. You can expect inexpensive bungalows in the Yasawa Islands and exclusive resorts in the Lau Islands alike.

Copenhagen might not be the first honeymoon destination most people think of, but the Danish city has an undeniably romantic charm. Copenhagen’s theme park Tivoli Gardens inspired both writer Hans Christian Andersen and Walt Disney. Plus, the city is full of beautiful canals and picturesque cobblestone streets.

There are lots of attractions in Copenhagen for every interest, including taking a boat tour of the canals and visiting the Denmark National Aquarium. You can even get a glimpse of royal life at Amalienborg Museum.

The magic doesn’t end in Copenhagen either, couples should absolutely take a day trip to Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod.

Rottnest Island has especially great snorkeling and dive spots nearby. There’s something for all levels from shallow reefs to advanced dives like Shark Cave.
