Orlando is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, but many people only visit the theme parks. Don’t get me wrong, the parks are fantastic. But, you miss out on all the other great stuff to do in Orlando.

In addition to working at Walt Disney World for 12 years, I also grew up in Orlando. That means I’ve had over 25 years to experience everything Central Florida offers.

This post covers the classics, some hidden gems, and my favorite attractions, so bookmark it for later – and use the above jump links to jump around! If you prefer video media, there is a video guide at the end of this post.

Before you go, make sure to bookmark my guide to the best places to stay in Orlando!

Best Things to Do in Orlando

Water Parks

Make a splash at one of Orlando’s water parks to cool off in the Florida sun.

Universal’s Volcano Bay

For most of the year, Orlando is hot! What better way to cool off and enjoy the sunshine than at one of the many water parks in the area? The major theme parks each have their own water parks. Plus, some hotels have massive pools and splash pads that basically count as a water park.

Kelly Park – Rock Springs

Hop on a tube and enjoy a float down one of Florida’s prettiest springs.

View of the author holding her child in a float on the river at Kelly Park Rock Springs
My son’s inaugural ride at the springs, a Florida tradition

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 254-1902 | Kelly Park Website | Summer hours: 8 am – 8 pm, Winter hours: 8 am – 6 pm | Entrance: $3 per vehicle (1-2 people), $5 per vehicle (3-8 people)

Locals may come after me for including this hidden oasis, but Kelly Park – Rock Springs is one of the most beautiful waterways in Florida. 68-degree water flows out of the springs, creating a refreshing environment. The springs create a natural lazy river and you can relax during a 25-minute tube ride.

During busy times, especially weekends in summer, the park can reach capacity more than an hour before the gates even open.

Get there as early as possible and you will see the line of cars parked along the road. A sheriff will give you one of 280 entry tickets, which secures your entrance into the park, and then you can take a nap or get out and stretch your legs while you wait for the gates to open.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Learn about the past, present, and future of space travel.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (855) 433-4210 | Website | Hours: 9 am – 5 pm (open later during peak seasons) | Entrance: $75 adults, $65 children

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is an out-of-this-world experience (pun intended). The exhibits are well-maintained and educational. Additionally, the facility does a great job of including age-appropriate activities and displays for kids and adults.

While technically located on the coast of Florida, Kennedy Space Center is an easy day trip from Orlando when you take one of the tours with transportation included

I recently visited with my family and put together this helpful guide to the Kennedy Space Center for you to plan your visit.

Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (888) 526-4194 | Website | Hours: 9 am – 5:30 pm | Cost: starting at $32 per person | 👉 Book your airboat ride

These flat-bottom airboats can go up to 45 miles per hour through beautiful Lake Tohopekaliga, or Lake Toho. If you’re looking to get out and see the “real Florida” this is one of the best ways to do it.

Whether you choose a 30-minute or 60-minute airboat ride, you’re in for a thrilling adventure! Personally, I would go with the longer tour for a better chance of spotting wildlife.

Disney Springs

Head to this entertainment district for top-notch restaurants, family-friendly entertainment, and endless shopping.

People wandering in the line of shops and boutiques
Disney Springs is a great place to shop, dine, and stroll

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: 10 am – 11 pm | Entrance: Free

When so many things at Disney cost a pretty penny, I love visiting Disney Springs because it is free to park and free to enter. From there, you’ll be able to walk around and do some souvenir shopping. For a bite to eat, check out one of my favorite restaurants: Raglan Road Irish Pub, Morimoto Asia, or The Boathouse.

For entertainment, you can catch a movie, hop in a hot air balloon, or see a Cirque du Soleil show. I’ve got an entire guide on the best attractions at Disney Springs to help you decide what you want to do there!

Clear-Bottom Kayak

Get the best view of the pristine spring water from Rock Springs.

Author Katie and her friends taking a selfie with their kayaks
If my friends and I didn’t have our own boats, we would only be renting the clear kayaks!

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 212-7306 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 5 pm | Entrance: $99 adults, $59 children

The best way to see the famous Emerald Cut of Rock Springs Run is to take a clear kayak tour from King’s Landing. This paddle takes you through some of the clearest water you’ll ever see!

Keep your eyes on the clear bottom. Turtles, fish, and even otters call this water home.

There are a few spots where you can hop out of your boat to enjoy the cooling water.

Orlando Science Center

This iconic Orlando museum has something for all ages – including the new $13.5 million Life exhibit.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 514-2000 | Website | Hours: 10 am – 5 pm, Closed most Wednesdays during the school year | Entrance: $30 adults, $23 children

The Orlando Science Center was already a top attraction in the city, but the new expansion has made it even better! The Life exhibit includes a walk-through area filled with tropical animals, ocean aquariums, and native Florida species.

As someone who is not a huge fan of visiting museums, I must say that OSC is truly an all-ages attraction. There are several educational exhibits and hands-on activities.

Orlando Theme Parks

Walt Disney World

You know it, you love it. Walt Disney World is an iconic vacation destination for families.

The author and her husband posing in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studio, with Star Wars exhibit in background
Visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: Vary | Park Tickets: Starting at $109/person

Does Walt Disney World even need an explanation? With four theme parks, two water parks, 30+ hotels, and several additional attractions/activities, Disney World has enough to fill an entire vacation.

If you’ve never been to Disney World before, I recommend planning a single vacation where you focus on the parks. However, on return visits, it is fun to start exploring the rest of Orlando too.

Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando is the destination for thrill-seekers and fans of Harry Potter, Dreamworks, Minions, and more.

View of the Hogwarts Castle from the movie Harry Potter
Hogwarts Castle at Islands of Adventure

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: Vary | Park Tickets: Starting at $119/person

In 2025, Universal Orlando will be opening its third theme park – Epic Universe. This expansion also comes with three new hotels and additional complimentary transportation options.

You don’t have to wait until then to enjoy the Universal Orlando Resort though. Universal has several hotels at varying price points and a fantastic Express Pass system.

SeaWorld Orlando

The “Coaster Capital of Orlando” offers a mix of animals, education, and thrill rides.

View of the author with friends an a penguin at Sea World Orlando
Friends and me meeting a couple of penguins.

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: Vary | Park Tickets: Starting at $99

SeaWorld Orlando has gone through quite a transformation over the years. It still has a focus on aquatic animals, conservation, and animal rescue, but it has added tons of great roller coasters throughout the park.

These aren’t your average roller coasters either. Manta has you hanging horizontally and Pipeline has you standing up!

LEGOLAND Florida/Peppa Pig Theme Park

A great destination for families with young kids, LEGOLAND and Peppa Pig Theme Park offer a calmer amusement park experience.

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: Vary | Park Tickets: Starting at $74 (LEGOLAND) & $34 (Peppa Pig)

Located about an hour away from downtown Orlando, LEGOLAND is sometimes considered a “forgotten” theme park. With the recent addition of the Peppa Pig Theme Park, it is now a great day trip for families.

Since they are not as popular as Disney or Universal, these parks tend to be less crowded. Plus, many attractions are suitable for little ones making this one of the best Orlando attractions to do with kids

Outdoor and Animal Activities in Orlando

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens

CFZBG is a charming little zoo tucked away just outside Orlando.

Meet my friend Rafiki at the giraffe feeding station.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 323-4450 | Website | Hours: 9 am – 4 pm | Entrance: $24 adults, $18 under 13

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a small zoo, but it packs a punch in terms of animals! From the petting zoo to the giraffes to the Amur leopard, the animal collection has something for everyone.

To make your visit a little more special, I recommend visiting the giraffe feeding stand and booking a rhinoceros encounter. PJ, a greater one-horned rhino, is a fantastic ambassador for his species.

Gatorland

Get to know Florida’s state reptile (and other native species) up close and personal.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 855-5496 | Website | Hours: 10 am – 5 pm | Entrance: $35 adults, $25 under 13

One question I always get when friends are visiting Florida is “are there alligators in the water?” And the answer is always “yes”. If you’d prefer to see your reptiles behind a barrier, check out Gatorland.

This small roadside attraction has grown to be a fun and educational animal experience. You enter through the iconic gator jaws and immediately onto a boardwalk over an alligator-filled swamp.

Some can’t-miss shows are the Gator Wrestlin’ Show and the Gator Jumparoo Show. For a little extra adrenaline, you take the Screamin’ Gator zip line over the breeding marsh.

Bok Tower Gardens

From the tower bells to the magnificent gardens, you won’t want to miss a day exploring this iconic property.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (863) 676-1408 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 6 pm | Entrance: $20 adults, $10 children

Bok Tower Gardens is a true oasis in Greater Orlando. The main attraction is the “singing” tower which plays carillon music throughout the day. In addition to the 50-acre property, admission also includes access to a 3.5-mile hiking trail through Pine Ridge Preserve.

There are multiple plots on the property, including one dedicated to children and play. I love to wander through the edible garden to see which foods they’re growing in season.

Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park

Add an outdoor adventure to your Orlando vacation with this physical, but fun activity.

Plenty of challenging obstacles for all ages!

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 390-9999 | Website | Hours: Vary | Cost: $60 adults, $35-47 Children

Orlando Tree Trek is the best ropes course and aerial obstacle course in town. There are four courses to choose from (with varying difficulties) and two kids’ courses with plenty of fun challenges. The entire family will love the excitement of one of the most challenging but exhilarating Orlando attractions.

To avoid the disappointment of a long wait time, Orlando Tree Trek requires advanced booking for access to the adventure park.

Wekiva Island

Spend a day like a local by soaking up the sun and relaxing along the Wekiva River.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 862-1500 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 9 pm Sun-Thurs, 8 am – 11 pm Fri-Sat | Entrance: $5 per person

Wekiva Island is nothing but a good time. This recreation complex features a waterfront boardwalk, kayak and canoe rentals, a refreshing river to swim in, and much more. Since the Wekiva River is spring-fed, the water stays 72 degrees year-round, making this the perfect place to cool off.

Wekiva Island is very popular, especially on weekends, so plan to arrive early. There are food and drink options on the property, so you won’t need to leave once you arrive.

Horseback Riding at Lake Louisa State Park

Step away from the theme parks and attractions to enjoy the quiet beauty of a Florida state park.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (352) 503-4489 | Website | Hours: Vary | Park Entrance: $5 per vehicle | Cost: Starting at $69 | 👉 Book your horseback riding adventure

Another fun option for seeing the natural ecosystems around Orlando is horseback riding at Lake Louisa State Park. The riding trails are 3-6 miles and all rides are guided by a ranger. The ranger will point out local wildlife and plants.

Lake Louisa State Park offers more than just horseback riding, so you can turn your visit into a day trip. There are 20 miles of hiking trails, a beach to swim at, fishing piers, and a lake with kayak and canoe rentals.

Harry P. Leu Gardens

Leu Gardens is a fantastic example of well-maintained gardens and the beauty of Orlando.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 246-2620 | Website | Hours: 9 am – 6 pm spring/summer, 9 am – 4 pm fall/winter| Entrance: $15 adults, $10 age 4-17

There can be a lot of hustle and bustle when you visit Orlando, thanks to plentiful parks and attractions. If you need to slow down and relax, head over to Harry P. Leu Gardens. This breathtaking property has 50 acres of gardens to wander through.

The property is divided up into different sections. You walk from a bountiful vegetable garden, into a tropical rainforest, and under towering oaks covered in Spanish moss.

Tibet-Butler Nature Preserve

This little piece of paradise in Disney’s backyard is the best place to step away from the parks and into Florida’s natural beauty.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 254-1940 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 6 pm | Entrance: Free

Tibet-Butler Nature Preserve is a hidden nature gem in Orlando. This small property offers hiking trails that pass through a couple of different ecosystems and end at one of the beautiful local lakes.

This is a great place to see wildlife, especially for avid bird watchers. But, the trails can get a little muddy, so wear appropriate shoes!

Lake Eola Park

In the heart of downtown Orlando, Lake Eola Park is a beautiful space for the community to come together.

📍 Google Maps | Website | Entrance: Free

Lake Eola is truly the heart of downtown Orlando. A walk around the lake will give you views of the Orlando skyline. This is the perfect path for a stroll or a morning run.

Inside the lake, there is a massive water fountain, which is lit up in a colorful show each night. Swans and swan boats alike can be seen floating on the calm waters.

On the West side of the lake, you’ll find the Walt Disney Amphitheater, which is an outdoor venue for performing arts. In 2016, the amphitheater was repainted in a rainbow of colors to commemorate the massacre at Pulse nightclub and to serve as a reminder that Orlando remains a city focused on inclusion and celebration.

Hidden Gems in Orlando

Nona Adventure Park

From wakeboarding to an aquatic obstacle course to a ropes course, Nona Adventure Park is the ultimate outdoor playground.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 313-2907 | Website | Hours: Vary by season | Entrance: Starting at $45

Nona Adventure Park is the perfect place to spend the day as a family. Everyone can give wakeboarding a try or jump around the aquatic inflatable play area. There is also a ropes course and rock climbing walls.

All in all, if your family likes to move and get outside, this is the perfect place to spend a day.

B-52 Memorial Park

Aviation enthusiasts can enjoy seeing a B-52 up close while everyone else enjoys views of planes taking off and landing.

📍 Google Maps | Entrance: Free

A seriously hidden gem in Orlando is the B-52 Memorial Park at Orlando International Airport. Many people can see the plane as they drive to the airport, but most don’t realize that they can actually visit it.

The park is tucked behind one of the parking lots, but it is free to visit. Make sure you follow your GPS to arrive at the park by the back roads around the airport.

👉 Local Tip: If you’re looking just for views of planes taking off and landing, I recommend heading over to Airport Lakes Park. You can see some planes from B-52 Memorial Park but trees partially block the view.

Old Sugar Mill Pancake House

Equal parts historical and delicious, the pancake house at De Leon Springs is a favorite amongst locals.

Father and son making pancakes at the table
Making pancakes at the table is fun for all ages!

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (855) 980-2665 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 4 pm | Entrance: $6 per vehicle

I always recommend a visit to the springs when someone visits Florida, but that visit is even better when you combine it with all-you-can-eat pancakes! Starting at $8.99, you can cook your own pancakes at the table. Your waiter will keep bringing batter as long as you are still eating.

The Old Sugar Mill Pancake House is located right next to the swimming area in De Leon Springs State Park. There are no reservations, but you can join the waitlist online or when you arrive.

World Food Trucks

When the group can’t agree on what to eat, head to World Food Trucks for dozens of options.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (888) 279-8411 | Website | Hours: 11 am – 12 am | Entrance: Free

World Food Trucks brings over 50 food trucks together in one place! In addition to classic food truck fare, you can also find tons of international offerings.

Each truck operates its own hours. Check the website to see which food trucks are open for your visit.

Be sure to see my guide to the best restaurants in Orlando for more spots to eat at while you’re here!

Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive

Pack the snacks and enjoy an air-conditioned car ride while looking for native Florida wildlife.

An alligator in Boggy Creek
We’ve seen hundreds of alligators – big and small – on the drive.

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: 7 am – 3 pm Friday-Sunday and federal holidays | Entrance: Free

If you’re looking for a place to see the natural beauty of Florida, this is one of my top recommendations. Not only is the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive a free attraction, but it is a great opportunity to see tons of wild alligators.

In addition to the gators, you’ll be able to see dozens of species of birds. While the native birds are present year-round, winter is the best time to visit for birdwatchers looking for migratory species.

There is also an audio tour that you can listen to on your drive. You’ll learn about the wetlands, native species, and how the area is being restored after farming pollution.

Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove is unlike any other theme park in Orlando. This all-inclusive park is a mix of a zoo, an aquarium, and a water park.

View of the snorkelers at the Grand Reef in Discovery Cove

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 513-4600 | Website | Hours: 7 am – 5 pm | Entrance: Starting at $140 (varies by date)

I don’t necessarily recommend Discovery Cove to everyone visiting Orlando, but I think it is a must-visit for animal lovers and those looking for a slow day of relaxation.

For the animal lovers, you can see tons of animals in the park. This includes snorkeling through a tropical reef, floating past otters and birds, and land encounters led by animal educators.

For visitors wanting a day of relaxation, Discovery Cove is like visiting an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean. There are beaches and waterways to enjoy. Plus, all food and (most) alcoholic beverages are included in the cost!

Crayola Experience

Kids (yes, even the kids at heart) love being able to get creative at the Crayola Experience.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 757-1700 | Website | Hours: 10 am – 6 pm Sunday – Friday, 10 am – 8 pm Saturday | Entrance: $30

This unique attraction allows you and your family to enter the crazy world of color. Not only will you learn about the history of Crayola and how crayons are made, but you get to create art too! At Crayola Experience, there are endless opportunities to be creative – spinning melted wax, designing a fashion outfit, or just plain old coloring with crayons.

One of my favorite things about this location is its drive to be inclusive to all. Everything in their location is ADA-compliant, so all children can enjoy the magic. In addition, they host Sensory Sunday events throughout the year, which modifies the experience to accommodate children with sensory needs.

Things to Do in Orlando for Adults

Downtown Winter Park

Step away from the attractions and spend the day like a local in Winter Park.

View of shops in downtown Winer Park

📍 Google Maps | Website | Entrance: Free

Winter Park is a quaint town, located just north of downtown Orlando. The town is filled with picturesque houses and hip eateries.

One of the main attractions is the Saturday Farmers’ Market, which is the number one market in the area. Even if you can’t pack a bushel of Florida citrus in your luggage, this is a beautiful event to wander through the vendors and enjoy some delicious homemade goods.

Head to the cobblestone streets of Park Ave for the full foodie and shopping experience. The SunRail station is nearby and runs on weekdays.

Helicopter Ride

Head up high above the theme parks and attractions for a birds-eye view of Orlando.

International Heli-Tours has two central locations and offers dozens of tour routes throughout Orlando. Most of the tours take you over one or some of the theme parks. If you’re choosing just one destination, I highly recommend the Disney tour. There is just so much to see from the air!

Ghost Tour

Orlando may not have the long history of other major cities, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t without its ghosts.

📍 Google Maps | Website

Amateur ghost hunters and spooky season fans should definitely add a ghost tour to their itinerary. American Ghost Adventures offers ghost tours in downtown Orlando, Mount Dora, Deland, and more locations around Central Florida.

Some of the tours just include the stories but others allow guests to participate in a paranormal investigation!

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

Sit back and appreciate a beautiful and educational tour of one of the most cultural suburbs of Orlando.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 644-4056 | Website | Hours: 10 am – 4 pm | Entrance: $20 adults, $10 ages 2-11

Take a relaxing boat tour through the chain of lakes and man-made canals. The tour is one hour long and tours leave every hour on the hour.

The tour will show off the natural beauty of Florida’s waterways, including tall cypress trees and hungry cranes fishing for lunch. For architecture lovers, enjoy the view of the magnificent estates along the water.

While taking in the sites, your tour guide will educate you on the history of the town, which includes presidential visits and the oldest college in Florida.

Drawn to Life is a beautiful collaboration of animation and live performance. This is the perfect way to unwind after a day at the pool or the parks.

To make the evening more special, you can purchase a dining package with a prix fixe menu (starting at $45 per person) from one of Disney Springs’ delicious restaurants.

Orlando Museum of Art

Step away from the chaos around the attractions and enjoy a thoughtful day of artistic exploration.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 896-4231 | Website | Hours: 10 am – 4 pm Tuesday – Friday, 12 pm – 4 pm Saturday – Sunday | Entrance: $20 adults, $8 ages 6-17

Orlando Museum of Art, the premier art museum in the area, presents 10-12 exhibitions throughout the year, so check their website to see what artists or collections they are currently exhibiting.

OMA has the perfect location for a day of arts and culture. It is located at Loch Haven Park, which also houses the Science Center, the Mennello Museum of American Art (and their sculpture garden), and the Orlando Repertory Theatre.

On certain days, OMA hosts an Art Night Out for adults, which is a great way to get creative and bring home your own masterpiece during your visit to Orlando.

Things to Do on International Drive

The Orlando Eye

Take a 20-minute spin on the Orlando Eye for fantastic views of Orlando and nearby attractions.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (321) 209-9679 | Website | Hours: 12 pm – 9 pm Monday – Friday, 12 pm – 10 pm Saturday – Sunday | Cost: Starting at $30 adults, $25 ages 2-12

The Orlando Eye is the main attraction at ICON Park, an entertainment area on International Drive. “I-Drive” as it’s known to locals, is a hot spot for restaurants, hotels, and smaller attractions.

The Eye gives you a bird’s eye view of Orlando when you go up to 400 feet. But this isn’t your mama’s Ferris wheel… Each capsule is air-conditioned and there is a bar to grab drinks just before you load.

ICON Park isn’t just a one-attraction destination. You can also hit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, SEA LIFE Aquarium, and more attractions after your ride. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars around to complete your visit.

The Escape Game Orlando

Add a little challenge to your Orlando vacation with a visit to The Escape Game.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 501-7222 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 12 am | Entrance: $42

I recently visited The Escape Game for the first time, and I am hooked! These 60-minute experiences are filled with puzzles, clues, and physical tasks to get your group to the end of the storyline. Add this to the top of your list for rainy-day activities in Orlando, but it is also a nice reprieve from the summer heat.

The challenges can fit up to 8 people, so the entire family can join in the fun. They rank the difficulty of the rooms out of 10, with higher numbers being harder to escape. We did Gold Rush, which had a rating of 7/10. It was challenging but still fun for everyone.

Fun Spot America

Centrally located and offering fun for all ages, Fun Spot America is a great budget-friendly alternative to the larger theme parks.

View of a kids roller coaster at Fun Spot Orlando
Fun Spot is home to plenty of kid-friendly Orlando activities and rides

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 363-3867 | Website | Hours: 2 pm – 12 am Monday – Thursday, 12 pm – 12 am Friday, 10 am – 12 am Saturday – Sunday | Entrance: Free admission, rides vary in cost

Fun Spot is one of the most iconic Orlando attractions, located just off International Drive. The park features some of the best go-kart tracks in the world and Orlando’s first wooden roller coaster.

This smaller amusement park offers perks that the large theme can’t. Admission is free to enter Fun Spot America. You have the option to buy a single-day pass for all the attractions or only pay for the things you want to do.

For families with smaller children, Fun Spot offers a discounted Chauffeur Pass for an adult to accompany a child on rides they are not able to ride alone.

Tickets are also more affordable than the larger parks. This is a great location for budget-friendly travel with fun things for the whole family to enjoy.

Madame Tussauds

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (855) 450-0581 | Website | Hours: 11 am – 7 pm Monday – Friday, 11 am – 8 pm Saturday – Sunday | Entrance: Starting at $30 adults, $25 ages 2-12

Madame Tussauds features wax figures of some of the biggest celebrities, both past and present. See your favorite sports figures, superheroes, and historical figures as you meander through this museum.

Make sure you bring your camera because there are plenty of great photo opportunities. You may even be able to convince your friends that you really did meet Ryan Reynolds on your Orlando vacation.

👉 Pro Tip: Madame Tussauds, The Orlando Eye, and SEALIFE Orlando Aquarium are all located in the same building. You make a day of checking out these ICON Park attractions.

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium

Perfect for a break from the sun or the rain, SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium has some of the best exhibits I’ve ever seen!

Even the fish want to welcome you to the aquarium!

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (855) 450-0680 | Website | Hours: 11 am – 6 pm Monday – Friday, 11 am – 7 pm Saturday – Sunday | Entrance: Starting at $30 adults, $25 ages 2-12

This is hands-down one of the best aquariums that I have ever been to. The exhibits are beautiful and they have a wide variety of aquatic life to check out. I was surprised to find such an excellent facility within the shops and attractions of International Drive.

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium is a great place to beat the heat with your family. The aquarium has child-height viewing and interactive exhibits for the entire family. Everyone will love going through the 360-degree tunnel, where you can see sharks swimming above, below, and all around you.

👉 Pro Tip: The behind-the-scenes tour only costs $10 and is well worth the money. You can see their animal health facilities, meet new and young fish that are too small to go into the larger tanks, and view their largest aquarium from above.

WonderWorks

Sneak in a little educational fun as you explore the thrilling exhibits and attractions inside WonderWorks.

I think every child in Orlando ends up on at least one field trip to WonderWorks. When I visited recently, I was happy to see this place was just as cool as an adult.

WonderWorks calls their experience “edu-tainment” and it’s the perfect word to describe it. This attraction is filled with interactive science experiments that are so fun that you forget that you might be learning something.

WonderWorks is located next to Pointe Orlando, a shopping and dining destination. After you enjoy your time at the attraction, you can walk over to Pointe Orlando and enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants.

🛎️ Need a Hotel? WonderWorks, along with other I-Drive attractions and dining are within walking distance from the Hyatt Regency Orlando

Dezerland Park Orlando

This converted mall is now a large destination home to 20+ indoor attractions.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (321) 754-1700 | Website | Hours: 12 pm – 9 pm Sunday – Thursday, 12 pm – 12 am Friday – Saturday | Entrance: Free (Attractions vary in price)

Dezerland Park has a great central location near the major attractions. The location was previously a mall that has been converted to include tons of attractions – including miniature golf, Orlando Auto Museum, a pinball arcade, indoor karting, and more!

When someone says “there’s something for everyone”, Dezerland Park truly embodies that sentiment. The best part is that entrance is free and you’ll only need to pay for the attraction you want to enjoy.

Seasonal Things to Do in Orlando

Sporting Events

In addition to Orlando’s professional sports team, the area regularly hosts tournaments and major sporting events.

Orlando is home to the NBA’s Orlando Magic, MLS’s Orlando City SC, NWSL’s Orlando Pride, and ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. Plus, the University of Central Florida Knights compete in several sports.

Some other events held in the Orlando area include NASCAR races, the Arnold Palmer Invitational golf tournament, several WWE events, the NFL Pro Bowl, and college football bowl games.

See Manatees at Blue Spring State Park

See the awe-inspiring gathering of hundreds of Florida’s state marine mammals.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (386) 775-3663 | Website | Hours: 8 am – sundown | Entrance: $6 per vehicle

It is always exciting to see a manatee, but it is even more exciting to see hundreds together in the same place! When the weather cools down, manatees around Florida make their way into the springs because the water remains a consistent 72 degrees.

Blue Spring State Park is the closest manatee gathering place to Orlando. “Manatee season” is from mid-November to March. During this time, the water will be closed for swimming and paddling to protect the manatees. Don’t worry though! There is an elevated boardwalk along the spring run that offers fantastic viewing of the manatees.

Orlando Fringe

Celebrate the arts at the longest-running Fringe in the United States.

📍 Google Maps | Website

For over 30 years, Orlando Fringe has offered a creative space for people to develop their artistic performances. Their best-known event is the 2-week Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, held annually in May.

They also offer several performances, festivals, and events throughout the year. The Orlando Fringe event schedule lists all upcoming performances.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

From Broadway on Tour to Orchestra performances, the Dr. Phillips Center hosts some of the best shows that Orlando has to offer.

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is a gorgeous performance hall located in the heart of downtown Orlando. Check out the event calendar for upcoming performances.

With a great location, it is easy to enjoy dinner and a show downtown. You can even add in some drinks or a stroll around Lake Eola.

Bioluminescent Paddle Tour

Experience an other-worldly scene as the water glows with every splash you make.

View of bioluminescent waters at night

It is hard to believe that just an hour east of Orlando, you can experience breathing bioluminescent waters. This phenomenon is caused by a chemical reaction in dinoflagellates and comb jellies in the water.

May through October is the best time to experience bioluminescence in Florida. I highly recommend booking a tour for this experience because guides will know the best places to see the bioluminescence and keep you safe in the dark.

Celebrate Holidays at the Theme Parks

There is a 0% chance of a white Christmas, but the holidays in Orlando are still just as magical!

With time off of work and school, the winter holidays are a great time to visit the Orlando theme parks (and beyond). While you can expect large crowds, you can also expect special events, characters, decor, and treats!

Some of the most popular holiday offerings include:

❄️ ICE! At Gaylord Palms

❄️ Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights at Walt Disney World

❄️ Now Snowing at Celebration Town Center

❄️ Christmas Celebration at SeaWorld Orlando

❄️ Grinchmas and the Holiday Parade at Universal Orlando

👉 Local Tip: Don’t forget about Halloween! Families love Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disney World, adults can get spooky at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, and everyone loves Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld.

Nightlife in Orlando

Universal CityWalk Orlando

CityWalk is a fantastic place to shop and dine during the day or enjoy the nightlife once the sun goes down.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 363-8000 | Website | Hours: 8 am – 12 am (1 am on select nights) | Entrance: Free

Universal CityWalk is similar to Disney Springs, except there is more focus on restaurants and bars for adults.

My favorite restaurant is the Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar. The fusion menu featuring sushi and burgers means there is something for everyone. Some other great restaurants are Pat O’Brien’s, Voodoo Doughnut, and Antojitos.

If you’re looking for a night of drinking, CityWalk is the perfect place! You can walk around with your drinks and barhop between the different restaurants.

👉 Local Tip: Parking at Universal Orlando Resort costs $32 (even if you aren’t going into the theme parks), but if you arrive after 6 pm, parking is free (except on Halloween Horror Nights event days).

ICEBAR Orlando

Chill out surrounded by the one thing you would never expect to find in Orlando – ice!

Shot glasses made of ice on a bar
Yes, even the cups are made of ice!

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 426-7555 | Website | Hours: 5 pm – 12 am Monday – Wednesday, 5 pm – 1 am Thursday & Sunday, 5 pm – 2 am Friday – Saturday | Entrance: Starting at $15

ICEBAR has over 70 tons of hand-carved ice to create one of the most unique bars in Orlando. Jackets and gloves are included in the cover cost, so you don’t need to bring your own.

Don’t worry, if you don’t want to spend too much time in the cold you can head over to the connected Fire Lounge. Enjoy heating up on the dance floor before heading back into the chilly ICEBAR.

Cocktails and Screams

Why celebrate just one spooky season when you can celebrate all year long?

📍 Google Maps | Website | Hours: 7 pm – 2 am Tuesday – Saturday, 12 pm – 12 am Sunday, Closed Monday

Halloween lasts 365 nights a year at Cocktails and Screams. While the decor is eerie and immersive, the drinks are equally as impressive.

There are also tons of themed events throughout the year. Some events require a special ticket or entrance through a virtual queue, so check out their social media for all the updates.

Player 1 Video Game Bar

One of my favorites, Player 1 is the ultimate bar for people who love to wind down with a drink and a game.

From arcade to consoles – there’s a drink and a game for everyone.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 504-7521 | Website | Hours: 1 pm – 2 am | Entrance: $9

From arcade games to classic consoles to modern consoles, every era of gaming is represented at Player 1 Video Game Bar. The bar is stocked with craft beer, cider, mead, and more.

Player 1 also hosts events. Their social media pages are up to date with the latest announcements.

Hanson’s Shoe Repair

You’ll need the password to head up to this rooftop speakeasy in downtown Orlando.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (407) 476-9446 | Website | Hours: 8 pm – 2 am | Entrance: Free

If specialty cocktails and bygone eras are your vibe, then you need to add Hanson’s Shoe Repair to your itinerary. This vodka-free speakeasy even requires a password for entrance (don’t worry, it’s on their Instagram stories each day).

The hardest part is finding the entrance. You’ll enter BauHaus, a bar with very little to no signage outside, before heading up the red-lit stairs in the back. Once you get to a door, you’ll deliver the password to gain entrance to the rooftop bar.

Space is limited so expect a cozy atmosphere.
