19 Best Things to Do in Bayamon

Ron del Barrilito

Sample one of the top rums of Puerto Rico.

Rum lovers and connoisseurs visiting Puerto Rico should head straight to Hacienda Santa Ana in Bayamón, where the exquisite Ron del Barrilito has been made since 1880.

While here, I recommend taking either a history, mixology, or tasting tour offered at the visitor’s center – it’s the best way to learn all about rum in Puerto Rico!

Even as a non-drinker, I loved visiting the aging room, where you could see dozens of barrels lined side by side, including “La Doña” one of the oldest rum barrels in the room, which dates back to 1952.

👉 Need help planning your trip? This 3-day Puerto Rico tour will take you island hopping and show you Puerto Rico’s highlights, including Ron del Barrilito.

Charco Prieto

Go on a hidden waterfall adventure.

📍 Google Maps | Entrance: Free | 👉 Book a Charco Prieto Tour on Viator

In Bayamón’s countryside, you’ll find Charco Prieto, one of the most beautiful Puerto Rico waterfalls.

The waterfall is about 200 feet high and is reached via one of the best hikes in Puerto Rico through which I had to cross the river multiple times, crouch under fallen trees, and climb over boulders for over 40 minutes. While the final waterfall is the goal, the trail is also a memorable experience, making it one of the best sites in Puerto Rico.

👉 Pro Tip: The hike to Charco Prieto is strenuous. I recommend booking a waterfall tour to avoid any accidents and to experience the best of the area.

Museo Francisco Oller

Discover the artwork of a famous Puerto Rican painter.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (787) 785-6010 | Hours: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Tues-Sat, Closed Sun- Mon | Entrance: Free

Museo Francisco Oller is a renowned permanent exhibition of portraits by the famous Puerto Rican painter Francisco Oller. The museum is located in a historical building from 1907 in the town center of Bayamón and features an interior patio with sculptures.

One of my favorite things about this museum is that it also hosts traveling exhibitions, so even if you visit multiple times a year, you’ll find something new to admire.

Museo de Arte de Bayamon

Immerse yourself in Puerto Rico’s art.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (787) 269-4433 | Website | Hours: 9 am – 5 pm Wed-Sun, Closed Mon-Tues | Entrance: $3 donation

The Bayamon Art Museum is a small yet substantial museum that even some local connoisseurs miss out on. Located within El Parque de las Ciencias, this museum hosts Puerto Rican artwork from the 1950s up to today.

Besides visiting to admire art pieces, I recommend you sign up for one of the free workshops on Saturdays, which include family-friendly activities like painting, photography, collaging, and journaling

🚗 How to Get There: This museum is located within Parque de las Ciencias (Science Park). To get to it, enter through a gate between the park and the shopping mall. Entering the museum isn’t a free pass to the park.

Paseo Lineal

Stroll along the Bayamón River.

Paseo Lineal of Bayamón is a 6-mile linear park that extends from Guaynabo to Toa Baja, following the Bayamón River through its course until it reaches the sea.

The linear park has two lanes, one for pedestrians and one for bicycles.

The trail is super peaceful and is a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the sunshine and having some leisure time outside. I prefer visiting at night to enjoy fresher temperatures, but you’ll find a smaller crowd during the day.

👉 Did You Know? During the last segment of the linear park, reaching the Toa Baja, you’ll see both the Rio Hondo and the Bayamón River at the sides of the trail.

Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas

Hike, bike, or climb in this park.

With the city’s development, it can be hard to find outdoor things to do in Bayamón, but Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas stands as a local favorite for outdoor recreation.

This park boasts both hiking and mountain biking trails, and adventure seekers will also enjoy climbing on the caves and rock walls of the park with Monagas Rock Climbing. A curious fact? You can also find military bunkers in this park!

Animal lovers can’t miss the Caribbean Manatee Conservation Center in Bayamón. Located inside the Interamericana University, the Manatee Conservation Center offers guided tours with information on the efforts to protect endangered marine species.

In particular, I recommend the “Be a Caretaker” tour, which is a great way to work closely with manatees and other wildlife species.

Rio Bayamon Golf Course

Show off your skills on this golf course.

📍 Google Maps | Phone: (787) 740-1419 | Website | Hours: 7 am – 6 pm Wed-Mon, Closed Tues | Entrance: $40-75 depending on the hour

Another great outdoor option in Bayamón is the Rio Bayamón Golf Course. This course includes a total of 18 holes and a Driving Range with 58 stations where amateur golfers can practice. If you’re using only the Driving Range, and you already have golf clubs, then you only have to pay $5 for 50 balls.

👉 Pro Tip: If you’re visiting Puerto Rico on a budget, opt for visiting after 2:00 pm and take advantage of the $40 twilight price, which includes a golf cart and 18 holes.

Parque Central de los Niños (Kid’s Central Park) in Bayamón is the best in the city for a family picnic day. This park features gazebos, a playground, and a beautiful pond with colorful fish where you can snap a family photo.

I love visiting during the Christmas season to see the park’s decorations. Best of all, it’s free!

🛎️ Need a Hotel? If you want to stay right next to the Casino, or you just want a few days to explore the best of Bayamón, then book a night in the Hyatt Place in Bayamón. This hotel is centrally located next to Plaza del Sol and is just a short drive from Puerto Rico beaches like Punta Salinas Beach.

Foodies should put a pin on their map for Los Trailers in Bayamón, where they’ll find an outdoor food court with all kinds of food options, including Mexican, Japanese, and Puerto Rican.

While you’re here, I recommend you make a stop at a Señor Paleta, where you can grab a refreshing popsicle with traditional flavors like tembleque.

Visit on a Friday to catch live presentations, concerts, and festivals, and on Tuesdays for stand-up comedy shows.

🚗 How To Get There: If you’re coming from San Juan, then one of the best ways to reach Bayamón is by renting a car in Puerto Rico. I recommend using Discover Cars to find the best deals on your rental car.

The small shop offers unique ice cream flavors as well as seasonal favorites. The interior has a nerdy atmosphere with decorations, murals, and art inspired by Star Wars, Harry Potter, and other pop culture references.

You’ll also find vegan options to enjoy. Since the menu changes frequently, you’ll always find new flavors to try out.
