49 Best Puerto Rico Excursions & Tours
Live the magical bioluminescent bay experience a short ride from San Juan.
Kayaking in Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays is one of the most unique things to do on the archipelago.
Although Mosquito Bay in Vieques is the brightest of them all, it might be hard to reach if you’re short on time.
But, don’t worry, you don’t have to miss out on bioluminescence. This kayaking tour takes you to Laguna Grande bio bay, located a short ride from San Juan.
If you’re into water sports, then you’ll love navigating the mangrove canals in kayaks, and later seeing the water glow with every paddle.
After I visited Laguna Grande, I couldn’t believe such a magical place was so close to the city.
Cliff jump, dive, and slide on natural water slides in the heart of El Yunque.
If you only have time to go on one Puerto Rico tour, then I’d recommend taking one to visit El Yunque National Forest.
El Yunque has many off-the-beaten-path waterfalls and hidden gems that only local tour operators know about.
Nature enthusiasts can take a guided tour that will submerge them in the insides of the forest to discover swimming holes, natural waterslides, and lush greenery all around. Plus, If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try cliff jumping.

Ride through Isabela’s hidden and remote beaches while soaking in the Caribbean sun.
Even if you’ve ridden before, there’s nothing quite like riding along Isabela’s beaches. This horseback riding tour is easily one of my favorites in Puerto Rico. For two hours, you’ll ride through some of the island’s most beautiful (and secluded!) beaches, with turquoise waves splashing right at your horse’s hooves.
After exploring the shoreline, the trail takes you into a coastal forest, where you’ll ride beneath tropical almond trees and palm trees.
If you’re visiting in the summer, I recommend taking the morning tour to beat the heat. But if you’re here in the winter, go for the afternoon tour to catch the West Coast’s mesmerizing sunset on horseback.
And don’t worry if you’re a beginner! The guides will walk you through everything you need to know.
See Condado’s skyline from another point of view.
Kayaking in the Condado Lagoon during the day is one thing, but doing it at night makes the experience even better.

The whole family will love taking pictures during this outdoor adventure.

On the way, you’ll explore mangroves, lagoons, and green fields. Best of all, you don’t need any experience, and the tour guides will be with you always.
Rappel down multiple waterfalls in Orocovis.
I often say the best of Puerto Rico is outside San Juan, and this waterfall rappelling tour is proof of it!
Go canyoning in Orocovis and discover some of the most secluded and beautiful waterfalls of the archipelago, including one 170 feet tall.
You’ll rappel, hike, dive, and swim your way through the mountainous town, enjoying unique views on your way and experiencing the most thrilling (and my preferred!) part of Puerto Rico.
You’ll finish your tour with a farm-to-table meal.
Swim between caves and other-world-looking rock formations.
Caving in Puerto Rico is something I always suggest doing, even if you’re not the adventurer type.
Luckily, this cave tour makes it easy for the whole family to explore one of Puerto Rico’s most popular caves, Cueva Arenales.
Located in Vega Baja, this cave looks like something out of a Star Wars movie. The tour also takes you to hidden waterfalls and caves that most locals know about.
Hike to a 40-meter waterfall located less than an hour away from San Juan.
Although I’ve been to many Puerto Rico waterfalls, Charco Prieto stands as one of my favorites. But I wouldn’t recommend doing the hike there alone, which is why this tour is perfect if you’re interested in visiting.
For almost an hour, you’ll hike through Bayamón‘s countryside, climbing over rocks and crouching under trees.
On the way, you’ll find multiple swimming holes and waterfalls.
Although challenging, the hike rewards hard workers with a 40-meter waterfall known as Charco Prieto where not only do you get seclusion but also a nature-filled landscape.

Snorkeling enthusiasts don’t have to step out of San Juan to enjoy a great snorkeling excursion.
This tour takes you to Escambron Marine Park in San Juan to see sea turtles, tropical fish, and even manatees.

Cruise to Vieques’s most secluded beaches.
Vieques offers some of the finest snorkeling in Puerto Rico and with this private yacht tour, you can visit one of its least-known spots, Yayi’s Beach.
The healthy reefs and high-visibility waters will allow you to see eels, angel sharks, mantas, rays, and sea turtles.
You can also modify the tour to cruise around Vieques for four hours, or you can stay in a single spot to practice snorkeling and diving.
Dive into the coral-filled waters and caverns of Desecheo.
Desecheo Island is one of the top diving destinations in Puerto Rico and one of the few tour operators that take you there is Taino Divers.
Although getting to Desecheo is weather dependent, if nature is on your side, you’ll get to see unique and colorful coral reefs known as Candy Land or underwater caverns filled with marine life.
You can visit on a snorkeling trip too, which means you don’t necessarily need to be certified to immerse yourself in the beauties of this offshore island.
Escape to this offshore private island on a luxury yacht.
Sail with Aventurea Charters for half a day to Palomino island, one of Puerto Rico’s best offshore islands for beach enthusiasts.
Contrary to other tours, this Palomino tour is private, meaning you’ll have the whole yacht for you and your party.

But, I’d say my favorite part of sailing to the offshore islands is just beach bumming and relaxing at the beach!
Swim in a bioluminescent bay in Lajas.
I’ve been to all of Puerto Rico’s bio bays, and I have to say La Parguera has a unique charm to it.
After sailing for about 10 minutes you enter the bay and await the sun to set completely. After dark you can jump in the water, where your movements provoke sparkles like little stars around you.
After 20 minutes of swimming, you’ll return to La Parguera, where you can finish your night hopping between bars and restaurants.

The bikes you’ll be using are lightweight and designed for a comfortable ride even during long distances.
Take your family paddleboarding in Condado on a giant paddleboard.
There are many ways to explore the Condado Lagoon but, one of the most fun ones is with a giant paddleboard.
If you’re traveling with your family or friends, renting a giant paddleboard is a great alternative to single paddleboards and kayaks. This is also a top-notch exercise to promote teamwork.
You can pick your preferred time, but I suggest the morning or late afternoon sessions when the heat is less suffocating.
Walk the streets of Ponce while you learn about its history, architecture, and culture.
Ponce is definitely one of my favorite places to tour in Puerto Rico. This walking tour by Isla Caribe visits all the important landmarks downtown, including Parque de Bombas.

Swing Tarzan-style into the swimming holes of El Yunque.
El Yunque offers some really exciting activities, and with this tour, you’ll check off a few of them off your list.
Two of my suggested must-dos are sliding on the natural slides of the rainforest and swimming in its rivers. With this tour, you’ll also visit waterfalls and use a rope to swing Tarzan-style into the water.
Keep in mind, however, that you’ve got to bring your own car to this excursion.
